Happy Birthday To Me!

When Max grows up, he wants to be a Corvette. We should never have parked him right next to this line of Vettes. It gave him a seriously skewed perspective!

Yep. This was during part 2 of my birthday present. And it involves Corvettes. Does my husband know me or what?

So, for my birthday, my husband convinced our chiropractor - who is also a racing guy - to pick out a driver (Craig Meintzer) and have them take me around the Bondurant Road Course in a Corvette!

For you racing fans, these were hot laps. For you non-racing fans, that just means that he really drove the track - hitting his marks, controlling skids, whatever it took get a decent, but not record setting, run. It was only 3 laps, so it was pretty quick. But I'll tell you what I remember!

Right after this picture, we took off. By that, I mean vrrrroooommm! This was no gentle acceleration. This was POWER! The farthest loop of the track was closed for the Corvettes, so when we hit the first turn, it was a pretty big curve. The car started to seriously skid. I could see him working the wheel, but I was oddly unconcerned. There was so much room on the track, and he was so comfortable with the car that I didn't think about it. If I had been doing the driving, I probably would've lost my mind at that point!

Here you can see a bit the track. I don't remember seeing this section of the track on the first lap by. I know that we passed it, because the track is just a big loop, but I REALLY don't remember seeing it. I spent a lot of time looking at the track, looking at the marks, feeling the way the car responded... it wasn't about the scenery, that's for sure! At one point, I realized that I had my foot braced to the floor. However, unlike most passengers, who use their right foot to "brake" when someone else is driving fast, I had my clutch foot braced. Don't ask me why. I don't know. I just thought it was funny!

At this point, we've run the laps. Because the cars run so hot, you just can't do very many of them. In this picture, I've just asked Craig if he does this often. He said, "A couple of times a week." I said, "Dang! That's a good gig!"

This may actually been one of the coolest things that I've ever done. I mean, really! I have now gone 105 on a tricky road course in a GORGEOUS Corvette. It was pretty amazing.

So, thank you, HTH for arranging this. And, thanks, also to Dr P. for strapping me in and hooking this all up! I still can't believe that I did this. How cool is that?!?
