Yesterday was a Very Good Day

Yesterday was good for two reasons. D2 turned 16 and HTH finally got a contact lens that works. And I say those together to point out that sometimes the little things make a BIG difference.

We went out to dinner last night to celebrate D2's birthday. (He also celebrated at school during lunch because I brought him 10 In & Out Double Cheeseburgers to hand out!) At the end of the meal, HTH pulled out his credit card and handed it to the waitress. When she came back with the bill, I held out my hand and said "Do you want me to do that?" (i.e. figure tip, do the math) just like I have been doing since January 2, 2007. HTH just looked at me, laughed, and said "No! I can see it now!" WOW!

Granted, the contact lens is hard, so it will take some time before he is able to wear it all day. And, if he tilts his head completely back and tries to look forward, he can see around the lens to the section of his eye that has the astigmatism. But, WOW! He can see out of BOTH EYES! One little bitty lens, representing the efforts of an eye doctor and technician, and the whole world has changed. Sometimes the little things really do make all of the difference!

Little things usually turn out to be the only things that matter in the end
