Whistle domination!

OK, so I'm off of work today, which means that you should expect - by the rules - no post today. But, I do have some exciting news!

A few months ago, I bought some new whistles at the Renaissance Festival. In fact, I took the entire family to the Renaissance Festival specifically so that I could buy some new whistles. I am very, very happy with them. I bought them from two different vendors and they all sound lovely.

But then the engineer in me kicked in. I looked at these whistle and I thought "I can make these!" Yes, it is true. I decided that, in all of my free time, I should add another hobby. But where would I start? How can I figure out the techniques and physics required to get an appropriately tuned flute or whistle? Where should I turn?

Google, of course, came through for me. There is a nice flute maker in Florida who puts together bamboo flute making kits. I sent him money and he sent me examples of flutes, bamboo blanks, and all other kinds of exciting stuff to help make whistles and flutes. Look! Here it all is! My very own first steps to personal whistle domination!

Of course, until the last of the birthdays - DS will be 21 on May 13!!!! - I have no time to play with new things like this. So, I've sealed it back up and put it in the closet for the next month. (*sigh*) This adult behavior thing is way overrated.
